About

We’re a small specialist liquor shop in the heart of Dunedin.

We are owner operated! Such a rare thing these days!

We sell quality wine from, primarily, New Zealand and Australia, but also South America and the old world ie France, Spain, Italy, Germany etc.

Though we call ourselves a wine shop we sell a truck load of craft beer from around the globe, especailly New Zealand and USA but also from Australia, UK, Belgium, Germany etc

We have seven craft beers on tap!!!  You can bring your own vessel or we can provide one. We have four Tuatara beers on at all times and three guest taps.

Finally, we like a good Single Malt Whisky and you will always find a good dram on our shelves. We also have a selection of other fine quality spirits.

We do lots of tastings so make sure you sign up to our newsletter and that way you’ll hear about these and also all the other live events we stage, all of which takes place at Taste Merchants, our room where we do stuff.  That’s next door to Castle MacAdam.

Who are we?

Darren Stedman A Dunedinite, Darren established Castle MacAdam Wine in 2000 after a stint working in the wine industry in London. He thought it would be a good way to avoid the 9 to 5 grind and thus getting a real job.

Alastair McDonald hails from the North of England, and he too worked in the wine industry in London and also in New Zealand. He joined Darren at CMW in 2009. He thought it would a good way to be able to listen to his own music all day.

Together we have over 30 years experience in the industry. In fact we are both qualified wine consultants! We can say that because we both studied with the Wine and Spirit Education Trust, which is in London. We’ve tasted a lot of wine, and a lot of beer too. Not forgetting the malts either.  We’re approachable and knowledgable so come in and chat – we’d love to introduce you to something new!  There’s so much to try in the world of drinks!
